When you receive your I-20, you need to check the top box and ensure the information in there is correct and matches your passport:
- Preferred name, passport name and admissions number can be blank
- If your preferred name isn't your nickname, (i.e. Tom not Thomas) this doesn't matter. You don't need to ask for a correction.
- If you have a middle name, ensure this is on your given name
- If you have any letters such as ø or è in your name, these need to be typed out as they are written at the bottom of your passport in the <<< >>>> section
If the numbers in the financial section aren't what you agreed:
- This does not matter
- What you have agreed to pay is what you will pay
- The left side numbers must match the right side numbers to satisfy the US government. It's possible you submitted a bank statement showing enough to cover the right or more than was needed so this number was used then the remainder was put in with a scholarship amount
- The total will also likely be more than you agreed to pay due to the reasons given in THIS guideline you received when submitting the bank statement
If anything is incorrect:
- Reply to the person who sent you your I-20
- Attach a copy of your passport
- Ask them to make the changes you have found
Unless you are specifically asked to, you do not need to return a signed copy to us or the school. You now need to print a copy ready for your appointment at the embassy.
