Internships

As part of your degree in the United States, you may have to take an internship - where you can gain valuable work experience. This is usually unpaid, and you get credits toward your degree by completing it. Many students stay over in the US over the summer and will complete the internship then, or during the semester when they are in the off-season as they have more time then.

It is most common to do an internship as a junior (3rd year) or senior (4th year). An internship is something we can strongly recommend trying to do during your degree. You learn a lot and get work experience, it is great for your CV and it can open up doors for job opportunities after graduation. It is important to look for opportunities yourself and let your academic advisor or professors know you want to do one. If you show interest and actively try to find an internship, Americans will help you and introduce you to their networks. Keep in mind that you are the one who needs to push to do this.
