The scholarship

The scholarship

If you received an athletic scholarship, this is awarded on an annual basis and you can get an athletic scholarship for a maximum of four years. Scholarships are usually automatically renewed each year, if you do what is expected of you, athletically and academically. Reasons for a possible non-renewal of scholarship are:
  1. Academic – you do not achieve NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA's minimum requirements for ratings and credits. The minimum requirement is 2.0 in average rating (C-average) and 24 credits per year.
  2. Behavior – if you break school or team rules your scholarship can be taken away.
  3. Sporting – if you are not even close to performing to what is expected of you then the coach can reduce or not offer you the scholarship for the next school year. If you do not go to training and give it 100%, those are reasons why a coach will not renew the scholarship the next year. A scholarship will rarely be reduced if you are not performing in the sports arena.
Academic scholarships require that you must maintain the schools' respective grade point average that the academic scholarship states you have qualified for. If your GPA drops below the required number, your academic scholarship may be revoked the following semester.

There is also the opportunity to increase your academic and athletic scholarship based on your achievements on the field and in the classroom. Any increase in athletic scholarship is up to the coach to decide. But remember that if you do not ask, you will not get. Feel free to talk to your placement person about how to speak with your coach after the end of the season if you feel that you deserve an increased scholarship based on your sporting performances. Scholarship renewal is generally quite straightforward. The new scholarship documents for the next school year (starting in August) will be signed in the spring semester.
