Vaccinations/Immunizations/Meningitis

Most American colleges/universities require that their students document which vaccines they have taken. Vaccines are also referred to as immunizations.

If your school hasn’t sent you information on this, you should search immunizations on the school website and you will get information about which vaccinations are required. Or you can contact admissions and/or coach and ask for more information. Do this early in case you are missing any!

Often you can ask the doctor's receptionist to print off a copy of your vaccination record which can be submitted to your school as evidence. If your school requires a doctor’s signature at the bottom or their own form to be filled out, you may need to book an appointment. If any are missing, you will need to schedule appointments to get them as soon as possible.

Certain states require evidence of meningitis vaccines being given within a certain timeframe. For some athletes they may be missing this or have just missed the date cutoff. You can argue with the school to try and have this waived, however most will still require you to have the vaccination again. You may find it difficult to get it done again, but it can be done. For those in the UK, it may be possible to get it done at Boots.

A COVID vaccine is not required to enter the US. However, you should check your school’s immunization requirements in plenty of time before departing.
